South Beach - Excellent Food and Scene?

My boyfriend and I will be visiting South Beach on a Friday and Saturday night in late September, staying at the Delano. We are both foodies (hate that word but have no other way to describe it), but we are also really into a lively atmosphere at a restaurant - almost with a lounge feel. am looking for something in South Beach with great food (small plates would be good) and cocktails, good music (a DJ would be perfect), lots of typical South Beach sexy atmosphere and scene. We want something that will get us ready to go out and dance later if that makes any sense. I have already eaten at Prime 112, Blue Door and Nobu and want something different. I've looked into Meat Market, but I'm not really into the idea of going to a steakhouse. Any ideas?

The food is very good at Solea but there is no scene at all - it was very quiet when we were there on a Sat. night.

Meat Market sounds like (and, well, is) a steakhouse but by no means exclusively so (there are a good number of both raw and cooked seafood items), and everything else about it seems like it would fit what you're looking for.

you can go to mr chow or the bar at the w after solea also they have a popular nightclub there

scarpetta would be perfect but it is not on south beach.

Couldn't agree more on the word "foodie". I cringe when people associate me with that godforsaken title.

Agree w/ TP on Solea, if only in the sense that the food is phenomenal and could lead to a night at The Bar or Wall afterwards. The restaurant can be quite empty but if you are looking for a phenomenal meal in a place that looks nice, its a great spot. Just a heads up - if you plan to go to the W establishments for drinks (The Bar, Wall) be prepared to get bamboozled on price. I had one bourbon there last week and it cost me $28 which was more than the whole goddamn bottle goes for at the liquor store (Eagle Rare 10yr - $27 for 750ml - its the well bourbon @ Sra Martinez & Michael's Genuine to put things in perspective)

Hakkasan, to me, has the best design of any restaurant in Miami and it's gorgeous at night. Absolutely beautiful and great for privacy and/or groups. The food is upscale Chinese (if you can imagine such a thing) with great flavor. You could make a whole night of it too as the lobby bar is pretty cool and always loaded with people and they have LIV if you're into that sorta thing.

I would also strongly recommend Meat Market. In addition to some outstanding steaks, they have some nice non-steak items there and the space and its clientele are sexy as hell. Bond Street would be another great spot I'd recommend. Sexy restaurant and nice rooftop bar for pre & post dinner cocktails.

Solea is delicious but zero scene. However, it's housed w/in the same spot that holds scene central--Mr Chow--which is an overpriced, under seasoned outrage.

Hakkasan is quite the scene. Beautiful, sexy, in fact when I went, I could swear two people in the booth next to us were having sex, which, if you think about it, wasn't that sexy while you're stuffing your face with $$$ dumplings. It's very Vegas in there.

STK on South Beach is also so sceney, but food is comme ci comme ca.

Meat Market is your best bet if you dont want to swim through the crowds at Prime 112.

Prime Italian, across the street, has quite a view of Prime 112. And tasty meatballs the price of your last hubcap, too.

    2. Thanks everyone! We have decided on Meat Market for one night and are trying to decide on the other night. I'll start looking through the suggestions now. How is the restaurant now at the Hotel Victor? I believe the name is V. I ate there in 2006 and really liked it - the food and the scene - but lots can change in a few years.

I'd do Hakkasan or Bond Street out of the ones I suggested. I believe the restaurant at the Victor is Vix and I don't have any info about it which might say something.

restaurant at the victor used to be Vix but is now some nondescript italian restaurant. no scene there.

        2. Thanks everyone! I think we are going with Meat Market on Friday and Hakkassan on Saturday. One last question - is Michael's Genuine Food & Drink worth sacrificing scene and South Beach proximity to try?

Yes. Best spot in Miami if you ask me. Great food, great bar, great desserts. You can't go wrong with Michael's Genuine.
