Seeking: SD equivalent of Legal Seafood

Been having a mad craving for something *like* Legal Seafood ever since I got home from Boston. Terrific fresh fish, simply but nicely prepared, nice atmosphere, not toooo pricey ...

Help?

Try the Fishery in PB on Cass Street (I believe it's related to Bay Park Fish Co.). I agree re: King's Fish House. I eat there often because it's THE best restaurant in Mission Valley. The variety's good and they're at least conscientious re: the sustainability of seafood.

On the topic of sustainability I'd like to know opinions about Sea Rocket Bistro in North Park.

I've been to Legal Test kitchen, also, the seafood restaurant and I've never ever been impressed with them.
      Glad you've had better luck..
I would say Fish Market restaurant not the Oyster bar or sushi bar.
      Give me Neptune's anyday!

2nd Fish Market, back east Legal is a good, not great, seafood resto. Some of the better places for seafood, on the EC, are right along the ocean. Another possibility out here may be the chain McCormick&Schmicks.

Legal Seafood is beloved by locals, and it can be good, but when I lived on the East Coast, I had more than one bad fish meal there (often business dinners), especially when I strayed from very simple preparations. Their heaviest sauces (tomato, cream, etc.) can rival library paste in consistency and (I'm assuming) taste. The Fish Market restaurants out here have a different vibe, of course, but they're much better, IMO, and King's Fish House is that much better again, although nowhere near the level of its parent restaurant, Water Grill in LA. If someone wants a high-quality, moderately priced fish dinner and doesn't mind a chain, I usually send them to King's with the advice: order simple.

... And if they're willing to drive a few miles behind the Orange Curtain, I'll send them to Gulfstream in Newport Beach, where I had a great piece of juicy plank-roasted salmon this evening, preceded by carefully grilled (deliciously charred but not overcooked) artichokes. All served in a large, airy, and handsome room.

I'm thinking the closest I've seen to Legal Seafood here in SD is the Fish Market chain. Wide variety of fresh seafood, simply prepared, not too pricey. I like Legal better.

Bay Park Fish is a gem. There's a fresh fish counter selling sushi-grade fish and a delightful dining room with wonderful fish choices. Their seafood stew for about $7 is fabulous.
