75th Birthday Dinner in DC

  • 7

Greetings from Los Angeles! I'd like to send my father-in-law a restaurant gift certificate for his 75th birthday. It's a big birthday, so I need someplace nice (thinking around $150ish gift certificate). He will most likely use the gift certificate before one of the Shakespeare Theater performances, so a restaurant in that general vicinity would be a big plus. He is a bit old school, likes steak, seafood, and some ethnic...but nothing really too adventurous. Not much into wine, maybe just something by the glass.

Thanks!

  1. For steak and near Shakespeare Theater, Cap Grille is the way to go.

I'd also throw out Bistro D'Oc, which isn't far from the theater and which is very cozy and accessible (read: quiet) for someone in his 70s. The food is excellent and he could have a great meal for two with just $100; $150 would be a real feast.

Thanks for the suggestion about Bistro D'Oc. I've looked at the menu, as well as some other posts. I'm wondering if it might be a tiny bit too casual for a really special occasion? Someone had said "one step below fine dining".

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

It's probably more cozy than fine. But silly me for forgetting 701, around the corner from the theater and quite lovely. They usually have a live pianist, and the food is special but not over-the-top. http://www.701restaurant.com/

    2. Poste or 701 might be a good choice.
