T Long's 60's Sweet & Sour Shrimp

3/4 lb fresh shrimp, cleaned and cut in halves
1 tsp salt
1 Tbsp cornstarch
2 tsp soy sauce
1 C water
1/2 C vinegar
1/2 C brown sugar
1 slice cooking ginger
1 Tbsp ketchup
1 egg
2 Tbsp flour

Beat egg, add flour and 1/2 tsp salt and blend well, Dip shrimps thoroughly and fry in deep boiling vegetable oil until brown. Drain.

Mix water and cornstarch, vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, ginger, 1/2 tsp salt, soy sauce and cook slowly until mixture has thickened, stirring constantly. Discard ginger.

Cover shrimp with sauce and serve.

  1. Thanks Googs! I'm not that good a cook, but this looks do-able....will let you know how it turns out (eventually). I remember a nice finishing garnish to be a sprinkling of sesame seeds on a S&S dish. Cheers.
