New Restaurant on St. Clair Disappoints!

araden Aug 29, 2010 06:28 AM

Dimitra's on St. Clair is a new restaurant that has great decor but that's where the fun ends! We had reservations for 12 and was told although the restaurant was empty, we couldn't sit near the patio, but deep inside the restaurant. No big deal, but a bit irritating. We ordered wine and the waiter said they only had half a carafe of red wine because they had a busy night last night?! they poured the wine (which was less than 1/2 a litre) in a dirty carafe. We showed the owner and she said she didn't know how this happened. We ordered appetizers and again received greasy dishes (the waiter swore they were clean until one of us ran our finger through the grease. He got new ones and the owner appologised again. By this time, I was ready to leave, but we people were hungry and started to eat. Other problems: soup was cold and had to be returned, Saganaki splattered over guest twice although we asked waiter to move to the end of the table, the meals came with 5-7 french fries (instead of greek potatoes advertised - owner said hard to make for weekdays) and one meal was forgotten (half an hour late). Not sure this restaurant is going to last! We're certainly not going back!

As a loyal St. Clair Wester, this just upsets me! There are so many extremely bad restaurants on St. Clair that are empty most of the time - and the few good ones are packed. There is so much room for more. The streetcar is finished - there's plenty of parking. There are TONS of people in the 'hood who can afford to eat out once in awhile. What is the problem?

        I totally agree with you.
2 new places are opening at Atlas- Italian and a coffee spot. On a good note - Noir Coffee is a great addition near Christie.
