George's (Haverhill), still a big Meh....

in an attempt to break up my normal routine i decided to give George's another shot.

i got there around 645pm last night and ordered a Stella at the bar. well i could tell straight away that something was off as my Stella was cloudy and had a orange-y color. one sniff and the sour smell told me to move on to something else. with the offending beer removed without fuss by the bartender i had a few Sam Lagers served in Sam's 'Perfect Pint' glass which i happen to like, even though it's not really 16oz.

i really wanted to see how the kitchen was doing but seeing a lot of mediocre reviews i didn't want to risk a full meal so i got a couple of apps.

i got their Lobster 'Cannoli'. i use quotes because what i was expecting was some type of filled crunchy shell but what i got was more of a rolled/folded crepe. the lobster/marscapone filling was decent with a good amount of lobster but could of used a little more salt as it was pretty one dimensional taste wise.

i also got their Asian Octopus Salad and about the only thing good i can say about this was that the octopus was tender. the seaweed, radish/carrot/other veg slices were over marinated and lacked any serious crunch that would of been a nice foil to the tender octopus. also, it seemed as if the octopus was sitting in this same dressing as its color was an unappetizing brown. i would suggest that this dish would of been better off assembled when ordered and not totally prepared in advance. also, a shot of fresh lime juice at plating would of brightened the flavors up a bit.

service was pleasant and quick and the place has one of the best looking rooms in the area.
