Where do they sell Heinz Organic ketchup? No HFCS

Hey all, so I am becoming utterly disgusted with the amount of unlikely things that are so loaded in HFCS now.

Ketchup. Every single supermarket bread you can imagine, including the "whole grain" ones. Mayo. Mustard. Relish. Cereal. Granola bars. It just NEVER stops.

So I hear theres a Heinz Organic ketchup out there that's hard to find here in Canada but contains no HFCS. Have you guys seen this at any major supermarket chains or anything? Because I haven't..

Trying to rid my house of the most commonly used condiments that the rest of my family wouldn't bother reading the labels over (or just don't care)

Same question goes for mustard and relish, if you know of HFCS free varieties.. I am all ears!

Thanks in advance guys!

I buy Heinz Organic at Loblaws. The only sweetner listed on the bottle in my hand is "organic sugar," no mention of HFCS, sugar syrup, glucose, or fructose.

What about Kosher brands of ketchup they would have to be HFCS free as well wouldnt they??

Regular Kosher brands can have HFCS because HFCS by itself can kosher - Kosher for Passover Ketchup will not have HFCS because corn is prohibited by Ashkenazi Jews -

What is liquid sugar? I think it's a marketing ploy for HFCS or else they would call it just sugar. The Heinz sold in Buffalo is now made with sugar instead of HFCS which ironically is made in Leamington but we can't get the same product here. I bought the smaller bottle of organic Heinz for $2 in Buffalo where here it was $4 even though they're produced in the same Canadian factory!

nope, it's sucrose. for legal reasons manufacturers *have* to identify any corn product as such because it's a major allergen.

ghg is correct - liquid sugar is just a sucrose syrup.

When did Heinz switch to HFCS for their Canadian ketchup?

Unless they've switched over the course of the past year, it's still liquid sugar. French's prepared yellow mustard doesn't have HFCS (or any sugar, for that matter). Hellman's mayonnaise uses sugar, not HFCS. These are all kind of the "default" condiment brands, so I'm not sure why you'd have much trouble finding ones without HFCS. I'm not sure about relish though as I don't have any here.

Sure, sugar-filled condiments aren't the most wonderful things in the world, but I think your fear of HFCS is slightly irrational in this case as the brands available pretty much everywhere are, in fact, HFCS-free.

As for bread, cereal, granola bars and the thousands of other processed food products, well... good luck. I think the plain Fibre One cereal has no added sugar (I could be wrong though), but it's definitely no Count Chocula.

Coincidentally, I was reading labels last night at my local Loblaws. Heinz regular and organic ketchup are both available and list liquid sugar in the ingredients.

I'm almost positive my bottle of Heinz Ketchup says Glucose-Fructose

Go take a look - mine says liquid sugar. Thanks for starting the thread though, because now I know what liquid sugar is.

I have never seen an American label that read "glucose-fructose." I never encountered that term until I moved to Canada.

Yeah, it's the Canadian food labeling equivalent. I just meant that their ketchup doesn't contain hfcs/g-f.

well, if you live near a Whole Foods Market (i know there are 2 in Ontario), you'll certainly be able to find HFCS-free ketchup there. also, if Hunt's is available in Canada, they no longer use HFCS in any of their products.

I heard that Hunts has won in multiple taste tests (I found chowhound discussions from 2008 and 2006 regarding the subject) much to everyones surprise even over the Heinz ketchup, but I've never seen Hunts ketchup that I can recall either. Big kudos to them for not using HFCS in any products at all anymore -- that's gutsy and something barely any other food companies have done. In fact more and more are jumping on the disgusting bandwagon all the time..

There is indeed a Whole Foods in Oakville but I'm all the way in Brampton.. Hard to justify driving 1 hour just for ketchup, but then again I've done crazier things before, and theres usually other hard-to-get goodies at WF that you can't get anywhere else either.

                  Thanks for the response!

well, i'm not a fan of ConAgra, the company that makes Hunt's, but it was a good move on their part. it's too bad most of their other products still contain HFCS, MSG, and cheap fillers like processed soy protein.

take a trip to Whole Foods. i know there are a lot of haters, but i love the place, and as you said they have some great stuff you won't find anywhere else so i'm sure you can make it worthwhile ;) good luck!

i have to assume to uninitiated that you mean high fructose corn syrup when you mention hfcs?

Also, all organic prooducts, including ketchup are made without HFCS.

If the Heinz is too hard to find, PC's ketchups (both regular and organic) are free of HFCS and should be easy to track down.

I've seen those PC Ketchups actually but have never tried them. Always wondered if they're any good. And PC is usually one of the biggest offenders for having HFCS in their products (check out their ice creams sometime, the ingredient list reads like a science experiment gone wrong), so if their regular variety doesn't contain any I'd be very surprised.

Thanks for the tip -- how does it taste?

The ingredient list only specifies "liquid sugar," which is sucrose. I'm not a big ketchup eater, so to me it tastes like...ketchup. I really only buy it to use as a base for my barbecue sauce, for which it works perfectly well.

Good tip, I haven't been to Highland Farms in some time but there is one in Mississauga that I will check out. Thanks for the reminder!

Definitely not available at all major supermarkets though, I checked my local Sobeys, Metro, and FreshCo and all 3 did not have the organic Heinz.. I've only seen it on Google
