Nice/upscale resto with good vegetarian options

mushi387 Aug 27, 2010 08:51 AM

I have a few friends coming into town for labor day weekend and they all wanted to go out to a nice dinner. We decided on Les Halles until a vegetarian friend decided to join us as well. Now we are trying to find a nice, upscale restaurant that also has decent vegetarian options.

Any suggestions?

Good thing that your veggie friend decided to join and saved you from eating at Les Halles. Its really not good. I'm not sure of your budget when you say upscale, but Cafe Boulud has many vegetarian selections. I'm eating there on Monday and plan to post my review, but in the meantime there are many positive reviews already posted here.

Double ditto re: Les Halles and Cafe Boulud.

C.B. may be Daniel Boulud's second-tier restaurant, but everything about it is first-rate! It's one of our favorites. Chef Gavin Kaysen is cooking some of the most delicious food you will find in the city right now. One of the 4 menus, Le Potager, focuses on vegetarian dishes. Service is cordial and polished, and the space, which was refurbished around this time last year, is lovely. It's also when they added Les Pleiades, the bar room down the hall, which is a very pleasant place to have pre-dinner drinks.

In the last week we have had two fabulous vegetarian meals

One at Cafe Boulad, it was stunning especially thw vegertable caapes served as an amuse bouche

Last night we were at La Grenouille, my aunt an duncle are in town and tehy have been dining there for 30 years on their annual visits. I had no idea they had a seperaet vegetarian menu.

        It was awesome.

Started with a chestnut ravioli with brussel sprouts in truffle sauce that the whole table tasted and we ordered a second one to share it was sooo good!

Another vote for Boulud but you have a lot of fantastic options. We recently had a great vegetarian meal at Tocqueville, which is well worth a trip with or without a vegetarian. Not sure how upscale you want to go, but you will do well at EMP, Per Se, Devi (but service is odd there), and Blue Hill, to name a few. Personally, I'd go with Tocqueville or Cafe Boulud and you probably won't have a hard time getting a reservation at either.

Have you been to Devi since Hemant Mathur left the kitchen?
