  1. Be shocking if it doesn't and sad when it does.
I love it but there almost nobody there. I am told he gets alot of late night business from Japanese businessmen but I usually leave at 10 or so and rarely see more than one or two other parties, generally none.

God, I hope not. My favorite restaurant, although I can't afford it anymore. Shige's gobo/shiso roll is my favorite food on the planet so far.

Somewhat endemic to the times, in that sushi is typically a more expensive meal out, and thus an item that might be found in a supermarket, or at an AYCE place might suffice to many customers.
Hirozen just sold, sushi Ike in Hollywood is being sold, and so it would come as no surprise if Shibucho would close as well.

FWIW, I have been going there a long time, and Shige always with a sigh says he's not sure why he stays open.

it was weird when i called them, b/c they said they ain't taken reservations and when i called another night it was just an answering machine, and one night i just showed up to see if they were open (it was a tues or wed nite, not to be confused with a sun or mon nite) and they were closed, also there's severly disruptive street construction or repaving or setting up the subway that's going on, and my friend mentioned a for lease sign, though i didn't notice t hat

Hope it's not closing, but a couple years ago, I was sure it was closed. Turned out to be just a general lack of exterior maintenance coupled with graffiti and the loss of a flag.

Let me know if anyone knows anything, he may have just been booked solid this week and not accepting reservations, but I seemed to have got the gut feeling that that was not the main case...

      2. Probably doesn't help that the city has had Beverly torn up and reduced to two lanes for, what, something like three years? (What the hell are they doing anyway? Constructing a new sewer line one molecule at a time?) Anyway, that's really too bad. Maybe they will move to a better location.

I think Shige owns the building, and as far as I know, his wine cellar is there too.

        2. Spoke with chef Shige tonight and he has been sick so standing for three hours at a time is too much, thus he has been pretty much closed for the last week He hopes to get things rolling again next week. I panicked the other night as well when it seemed to have shut down but he seemed in good spirits when we spoke.

Cool. Sorry about the premature fears of closing. That's great to hear. Suffice to say, I ended up at Kiyokawa on Robertson
