Pint Jars in LA??

I can find half pint and quart jars as Smart & Final, but no pint jars. Any leads on where I can find some? My pickles thank you in advance.

  1. Surfas has them. They also sell extra seals in case you need them

Target stores usually carry them. Just bought some in Pasadena.

    2. i'm pretty sure i saw them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond alongside a home canning kit.

i'm almost certain Surfa's has 'em. that's where i got mine back in may.

      1. I bought a dozen pint jars at Smart & Final last week (on Wilshire & Burnside) but it's true the jar sections had pretty much been raided out. Try another Smart & Final, or OSH if there's one near you.

        1. I found some at the Ralphs in Burbank on First & Delaware. I'm sure they have them at other Ralphs locations.

          1. Are these mason jars you are looking for?

and I think I've even seen them at Target, pre-remodel, so maybe they're gone now?

                  1. Big Lots used to carry tons, now, none.

I get mine at Smart and Final and every store has a slightly different selection. I'd say call around to see - you will find them, if not at your second smart and final - than your third : )

                    1. Smart and Final and Ralphs both carry them. I've heard Cost Plus World Market also has them but I haven't seen them myself.

                      1. In the event anyone on the westside is also looking, I found some today at the Smart & Final on Venice in Culver City. Surfas is not carrying them right now, nor is the Smart & Final on Santa Monica and Bundy.

                        1. The Ralphs on Overland and Jefferson has the LARGEST selection of Canning Jar's I've seen yet...

Wow Dommy - that looks like the holy grail of canning!

I"ve stayed away from Ralph's as I THINK their prices for jars tend to be higher than S & F. But they have the wax? And the 4oz jars? Maybe it's time to rethink my position : )

Yeah! No you see why I had to take a picture of the section... LOL! My poor Hubs.... LOL!!

Anyway, yes, they are not cheap at Ralphs, but since I just spent all day running around looking for pie weights and square tart pans, I can appreciate a one stop shop...

                                  Dommy,
Do you know where I can get 24-30oz jars with handles. We use them as drinking glasses. I can't find them anywhere,

Don't know where you can get them locally, but this place (that looks like way too much fun) has them in NY.

I've seen them off and on at the 99ยข store or dollar tree, but again, not in a dependable way.

                                  2. re: Dommy

They're never cheap anywhere. That's why it's always so nice when someone returns a jar after they've finished the contents.

                              2. Walmart in Torrance (goiing S on the 405, just take the Normandie exit and just to straight into the parking lot). I paid just $6.70 a dozen for Kerr pint jars. Unfortunately they didn't seem to have just the lids in stock. They had different sizes from 1/2 pints up to 1/2 gallons.

If anyone finds a good place in LA to get lids or lids plus bands, please post. Surfas charges about 2x more just for these items than Walmart gets for jars and all.

Smart and Final has just the lids or bands.

                                    1. a few years back I drove myself crazy trying to find the Ball jar website, Ball no longer owns or manufactures canning jars...name and product sold to Alltrista
Consumer Products who then purchased Canadian jar company, Bernardin , and later also acquired Kerr jars. This a link to their site complete with Ball logo, Ball canning book and every jar imaginable. http://www.freshpreservingstore.com/
