Delicious Fruit

Thought I'd start a positive fruit thread since it seems that "Crappy fruit - what's the story??" was more about where bad fruit is as opposed to good fruit. I am guilty on that count.

The peach I just had pretty much made me want to start this thread.

I bought a few Ontario peaches on Sunday from Marche Tania at JTM which were highly recommended from them. I just had the first one a few minutes ago and it was great, perfectly ripened and juicy as could be.

They also had great Bing Cherries from B.C.

Let's hope the stock lasts for at least a few more weeks.

Funny, I just had a peach in my lunch. It was just as you described, juicy to the point that you had to splurp a bit so you don't make a mess... Not sure where they are from but i bought them at IGA. Funny, since usually i hate that IGA's produce!

Had some great peaches from South Carolina from Tania this week, the label is "Pat's Pride", they are smaller and more oval in shape. Excellent taste.

Marché Tania made me very happy the other day. Very early in the morning, I was cycling through the market, and they had deliberately set out baskets of ripe peaches on the roadway, for people to glean. I took two.

That was very kind. The gleaners are not typical "homeless vagrants" think most are people with not much money, rather elderly, often of different immigrant origins, and intent on eating a healthy diet.

Picked up some amazing cantaloupe at the Marche Fermier last Thursday (St. Laurent @ Laurier).

I guess I did start that thread on kind of a negative note because I was annoyed with the bad fruit I had been getting, but my reason for posting was to get suggestions for where/ how to find good fruit. I did get some good ideas for places to try from that thread, and I actually just posted there last night about some really good peaches I found (at Maxi on Jean Talon east, of all places!). I guess the new thread might be more useful to someone doing a search for good fruit in the future...and the thread I started will be useful to someone coming to Chowhound wondering, "hmmm, wonder where I can get some crappy fruit in Montreal" :)

Over half the posts on that thread are suggesting places where to find good fruit.

On a more positive note (as I said in the other thread)..... Eden on Parc and Prince Arthur has never let me down.
