Important business dinner near Boston Convention Center

I know this has been covered in previous posts but I really need some help:

I am setting up an important business dinner for colleagues all across the US and Canada (about 10-12 people).

Can anyone recommend a place within a mile (so prefer 5 minute cab ride or walking distance)of the convention center? In previous posts chowhounds have rec Barlow's, Sportello, Legal Seafood, Sel de la Terre.

I don't know the area around the Boston convention center very well since I have moved out of Boston. Ideally i would like to find something like Neptune (ambiance, price and great food) but with more space for a big group.

Anybody familiar with the Boston convention center area please help! Thank you!

Mortons, Sel de la Terre or Radius would be ideal for a business dinner in the area. Radius being the most formal albeit further, but still within your request. Typically I would choose a steak house when entertaining clients because the menu usually appeals to everyone. Not everyone is a "foodie."

In this case, Mortons would be my choice. Its < 10 min walk. Legal Seafood would probably be ok as well if you're looking for a seafood focused menu, but service is definitely less polished than Mortons. If you go that route, make sure you choose the Legals on State Street and not the test kitchen, which is right by the convention center.

If you really want to impress and have $, try Menton.

Of the places you mention I think Sel de la Terre would be most appropriate. If you want to play it safe and also stay very close to the convention center, Morton's is a good choice. There's really nothing else within easy walking distance of the center that I would recommend for what you are looking for.

I think we're all assuming this is the Hynes Convention Center, and not the one on the Waterfront, with the recommendations made so far, right?

I'm not, reading them...there's a SdlT at the Aquarium, and a Morton's at the Seaport Hotel.

Good point. Fun game, trying to make recommendations that work with either area (Legal in the Pru, Test Kitchen in the Seaport District)!

I assumed it was Seaport since he/she said "Boston" Convention Center and not Hynes. Plus, he has been out of town and is not familiar with the convention center area. Also, Sportello and Barlows are near Seaport, not Hynes.

You are probably right, I can read it that way. But depending on how long he's been out of town, he may not know about the new Center. That's why I brought up the question, just in case.

Wow, thanks everyone for the support! We will be at the Boston Convention Center. I think so far Sel de la Terre on State Street sounds the best but I have never been there- can anyone vouch for the food and service? It looks like it's a French place and my Canadian colleagues are from Montreal so I don't want to send them to a bad French place.
            Thanks everyone!
