Downtown Itallian restaraunt suggestions?
My boyfriend and I are planning on going some place nice for dinner this weekend, but don't really know where to look.
My criteria would be someplace that has good food (of course), is slightly formal, has good atmosphere (not overly crowded and noisy like the spaghetti factory) and has good customer service. Pretty much we're looking for a good date place. Hopefully somewhere that's easy on the wallet as well.
I know it doesn't get much love on chowhound, but I am a big fan of Tavolata -- it's in Belltown but walkable from downtown (2nd at maybe Bell Street). Really spectacular space, and I think the food is quite good; it's not cheap but not outrageous for Belltown.
I've never been to Branzino, but I think their outgoing chef was on Top Chef, so it's kind of a brush with fame. Does anyone know if it's any good?

I have eaten at Branzino twice. The food was good, not outstanding. I do remember an excellent pasta dish as a starter. The slow service is what has kept me from going back.
As for Italian downtown, Il Terrazo Carmine fits the bill, avoid the meat/fish entrees to keep the cost down. I love the grilled romaine salad, baked eggplant and linguine with clams.
Use to eat at La Fontana years ago, but the last couple times it was dead in there, even on a Saturday night.
Barolo is also good if you're in that part of town.
leper has beaten me to it (5 am?) - you cannot do better for food or service and the ambiance, a tiny bit formal for tres-casual seattle, seems ideal per your request. i might also mention il bistro in pike place market (under the bronze pig) which is just SLIGHTLY less qualified on all fronts but where i have had many a fine meal
