Sam Sifton reviews Top Chef Ed....

...It wasn't pretty:
"the cooking at Plein Sud reveals itself to be lacking in flavor, texture, temperature or interest"

    Wow! Those reviews are so bad they may have a retro effect. Hard to believe the place could be THAT awful.

      The New York Times one was much better written....the VV one sounds pissy and personal.

      The Village Voice came to a similar conclusion three weeks ago.

      Title: "Plein Sud Plain Sucks."

      First line: "Ever been to a place where the food knocks your eyes out, but when you taste it—blech!"

        What's funny (and sad) is that one review referenced McDonald's burgers and the other, Burger King's fries...

            ah. the review sounds like karma biting back, calling ed out as sloppy, bad technique, uninspired. In my head I can hear it done in Ed's dour Eeyore voice

              Yikes! This is probably the lowest review he has written. Rated "fair." That is below Nello's, which I remember, perhaps incorrectly, as "Satisfactory."
