Looking for Good Guys Not Out Restaurant that isn't a Steakhouse

Hi,

I will be in LA this week and plan to get dinner with a few buddies that I don't get to see that often. We are looking for someplace in the Century City area (but could cast a wider net area wise) that is a good place for a guys night out, but that isn't a steakhouse. Cuisine- American, Mexican or Italian would probably be ideal. We don't want Asian. Price range- around $50-60 a person a few drinks per person.

Thanks!

"Good Guys Not Out Restaurant" = a theme restaurant based on a defunct electronics store chain that is not located in West Hollywood?

I'll let you know when I come up with a suggestion ;)

Just wanted to let everyone know that we ended up at Dan Tana's. More than we wanted to spend, but yes, we are grown men and we sucked it up and spent the extra money (came to about $110 a person). Well worth it- great atmosphere and everyone had a good time. Lamb Chops were prepared perfectly. The calamari app I had was rather common, but fit the bill. Thanks for the rec!

Dan Tana's has been my guy's night out place for a while now. It's pretty much perfect for that.

Still love it. A dabney Coleman and a tiramisu or chocolate mousse for dessert and that clubby cheesy atmo. And everything is right w the world.

Nothing says Guys Night Out better than Dan Tana's, although Matteo's was an excellent suggestion.

How about going someplace like The Penthouse at the Huntley or Whist at Viceroy - they are both quintessential LA restaurants that are fun and filled with pretty girls.

Not sure you would get out of Dan Tana's for those price points.
Rush Street, Le Saint Amour, Ford's Filling Station, all in downtown culver city might make for an intereesting walkaround, eat good food, drink good drink, etc.
Of course, Father's Office is always good, yet NO substitutions permitted, EVER!!!

Love Dan Tana's but you're right, price points are a tad steep there!!

I was also going to suggest Rush Street, we had a really decent meal there not long ago in the bar, with my kids, they thought it was fun to be able to sit at the high tops, just like the grown-ups. Burgers were really good.

But I also love Whist, it jsut has such a great patio to dine in. Really nice food too.

Ya know, offthebeatenpath1, if you haven't ever done it Father's Office is hard to beat for a guys night out...perhaps alittle rowdier than you are indicating is your desire though.

Thanks for the quick replies. Aching, Gulfstream is a good suggestion, but I actually have a dinner at South Beverly Grill the night before, and, as much as I love those Hillstone restaurants, I like a little variety. Not so sure about Pink Taco- seems like more of a hangout for 21 year olds (maybe I am wrong though). Has anyone been to Waterloo and City? Thoughts on Atmosphere?

W & C is a great hang with mostly good food, some menu duds (like the pizza), about 15-20 min away.
If you are willing to go beyond Cent. Cty:
animal is a tough ressie but awesome.
Bistro LQ, e baldi, Madeo, House Cafe, Amarone Kitchen and Wine, Mexico - Restaurante y Barra are all worthy of your attention, as is Le Saint Amour
I assume you know, and have decided against Craft in CC.

I was thinking about Animal, but I have actually been (not that I would mind going again). Craft I decided against because I am from Manhattan and have been to Craft- prefer to go someplace that I can only go to in LA. CIAO BOB, Father's Office is not a bad idea. We don't necessarily mind rowdy.

If you go to FO, only one thing to know: DON'T ASK FOR KETCHUP OR ORDER ANYTHING WITH A SUBSTITUTION!!!!! It is strictly verboten. Think Seinfeld's Soup Nazi, and there you have the idea.

Despite the link that came up, I meant the Father's Office in Culver City/Helms Bakery area NOT Santa Monica, which I never go to. CC/HB FO is much bigger, has a full bar and (I think) a much larger menu.

i think animal would be a good fit. I went with a group of 8 guys last week. its probably right in your price range. good wines. small plates for sharing. great meats. try the octopus.

e baldi is wide open,: L& D, Tuesday - Friday; D only, Saturday.
It was closed for a few months a few years ago due some divorce wrangling but has been reopened for quite a while now.
e baldi (Eduardo, the "e," is Giorgio's son) doesn't get much love around here but I think the food is divine, expensive, but truly divine. And, like the old man's place, it is so great for crowd watching/eclectic deb-celeb sightings (Nancy Reagan, Madonna, Kissinger, the Broads). The menu is about 75% the same as Giorgio's and 25% unique to Eduardo's talents/vision. Worth it, if you've got it, and for an occasional splurge, if you don't. I think it woud make a great Boyz night out for the right group.

Matteo's on Westwood Boulevard, just north of Pico, west side of the street. Old school, swankish, sort of Rat Pack Italian with good drinks, booths, etc: http://www.matteosla.com/

Perhaps Gulfstream? Despite being in a mall, the food is quite good and the atmosphere seems like what you're looking for. The hot fudge sundae is killer, if you're into that kind of thing.
