Do I need to sterilize glass jars before using them to preserve limes? How would I do that without shattering the glass? Thanks.
Use canning jars, like Ball or Kerr. They are designed to be boiled.
Put jars in deep pot and cover them by an inch of water, then bring to a boil. A couple of minutes of simmer should do it.
Thanks. I live in Israel and I don't think they carry Ball or Kerr around here. I suppose I can ask around for generic canning jars though
Boil the jars for 15 - 20 mins.
When you fish them out of the water, drain the water out of the inside, and set them right side up on a clean towel and let them air dry. Don't dry them with a dish towel - that can introduce new contaminants.
You should also boil the lids.
