Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe

  • c

Something new has surfaced in El Monte (3944 N. Peck Rd.) in the form of Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe. While a number of restaurants combine dim sum dine in and take out areas (e.g., ABC, CBS, Ocean Seafood in Chinatown), Ocean Bo is the first place in L.A. that I recall where the two are completely integrated. A large airy room is full of tables for diners, with a take out area taking up the entire left wall of the restaurant. Dim sum is off the menu, though it obviously doesn't take long for the waiters to bring the stuff over from the take out area. Dim sum is very reasonably priced, starting at $1.60 per dish. Cheung fun (rice rolls) are priced at $2. Quality doesn't match up to Ocean Star or NBC, but is quite good.

  1. is dim sum served all day till the evening? or does the dim sum end around 2 or 3 like most dim sum restaurants?

It's actually a Chiu Chow restaurant in the vein of Kim Tar or Seafood Village (esp. with the order-from-the-pictures-on-the-wall setup).

Dim sum ends at 1 p.m. or thereabouts. Quality is on part with Top Island (which is not meant to be a compliment).
