Will be visiting Flint, grew up there. From the Davison, Genesee area and looking for good mexican and good pizza. Live in FL and have a hard time finding either.

  1. If you're looking on the east side for pizza, I've heard that Luigi's, on Davison Rd., is still great. Haven't been there in years, but I still have friends who love it.

Ruggero's on Linden Rd, still has the best pizza in the area...IMHO.

Tia Helita's on S. Saginaw, in Burton, has good Mexican. Basic Tex-Mex, but doable...their chips are homemade and served hot...can't beat it! It's still a family favorite with my adult kids....we drive up from the Detroit burbs about once per year for it. Of course after we have our three baskets of chips and homemade salsa, we don't really want dinner. If you're from Davison you might remember when they were in the same building as Shenanigan's, on Western Rd, I think.

    1. Luigi's is still very good. They recently opened a second restaurant in Fenton. But, I believe Wizeguys in downtown Flint (connected to 501) has the very best thin crust pizza. I do love Ruggero's and Sorrento's (Flushing) lasagna.

Agree on Tia Heleta's, but it is located in the old Danny's Restaurant on Saginaw St., in Burton. The restaurant connected to Shananigan's is El Charrito's. The food has declined and the restaurant is shabby. (Relatives owned both places. A falling out occurred resulting in litigation. The court decided who owned which name.) Regardless, Helen, the first El Charrito's owner opened the Original Tia Heleta's in downtown Davison. Confusing? Yes, but Tia Heleta's is tops - both places.
