ISO flavourful field tomatoes, perhaps heirlooms

TheSnowpea Aug 22, 2010 08:16 PM

Hi guys,

I'm a fan of heirloom tomatoes, and I have used them in the past to make the best pasta sauce.

Does anybody have a lead on where I could purchase a large box of flavourful tomatoes (heirloom or not) in the Montreal area (or even further afield, since we have a car).

They don't have to be pretty, they just have to be GOOD. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to be able to locate tomatoes that aren't those awful sturdy, bland hybrids we find everywhere. Love and homegronw tomatoes, eh? Both hard to find outside home.

Thanks!

In NDG, you could try Co-op La Maison Verte on the days one of their affiliated CSA farms has stuff for sale to the public. You could call first to find out what days those are - am pretty sure one of them is a Saturday.

I've had some tasty, ugly tomatoes from what used to be Marché Duluth - I don't remember the name of the specific farm they were from but it might be a good place to find that kind of thing.
