Food Journey to Outer Banks, NC

I am heading to the OBX next Saturday with my family ages 2 to 58. Any great food discoveries along the way, and while we are there?

Duck, Corolla, Nags Head. But I also need places along the way down the coast - virginia, etc.

Where are you coming from. It's hard to recommend places along the way when no one knows where the way is. What city are you leaving from and what's your main route to OB.

        1. re: Littleman

I am sorry. I am coming from New Jersey, down 95 mostly.

      2. re: heelstar

I will be travelling down rte 13, staying in the southern shores, nags head, kill devil hills, kitty hawk. We heard there is not much in Duck. So, what do you know? Is there a good market for food, with great bread, pastries, beautiful fruit, veggies, poultry, fish, etc.? I want to do some cooking.

      3. Might need to update it some, but you can do a search on specific areas of the OBX to find out what you like. There's a BIG difference between Nags Head & Corolla, distance wise.

        As for on the way...

        1. South of Chesapeake, VA at Exit 290A on I64 is good soul food at Ms. Marian's and good BBQ at Wood Chick's.

          Ms. Marian's Restaurant @ 1437 Sam's Drive, Chesapeake, VA 757 - 547 - 5556.
          Wood Chick's BBQ @ 1025 Battlefield Blvd. North, Chesapeake, VA 757 - 549 - 9290.

Just S of VA line is Southland Restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just before you get to OB is Currituck BBQ.

          Southland Trade Restaurant @ 141 Caratoke Highway, Moyock, NC 252 - 435 - 6247.

          Currituck BBQ @ 4467 Caratoke Highway, Barco, NC 252 - 453 - 6618.

          1. Roadside Raw Bar is outstanding. Sunset Grille and Raw Bar is also very nice and The Blue Point is one of the best on the OB.

            Roadside Raw Bar and Grill @ 1193 Duck Road, Kitty Hawk, NC 252 - 261 - 5729.
            Sunset Grille and Raw Bar @ 1264 Duck Rd, Kitty Hawk, NC 252 - 261 - 3901.
            The Blue Point Restaurant @ 1240 Duck Road, Duck, NC 252 - 261 - 8090.

Second the Sunset and The Blue Point recommendations. Have not been to Roadside Raw Bar. I am a bit further south so not as familiar with restaurants up towards Duck.

Heading to Duck, NC on Sunday...haven't been there in years, so thanks to all for the recommendations. We're going to Blue Point on Wednesday; was wondering about another place called "The Pearl" located in the Sea Ranch in Kitty Hawk? They have a great looking menu from what I've seen online, but no mention of it anywhere on this board. Advice, anyone??

              2. Here's your seafood market in KH. Duck Deli and BBQ is excellent. Blue Moon Beach Grill and Lone Cedar Cafe are outstanding for lunch and dinner. John's Drive In has oustanding burgers and fried seafood. Kill Devil Grill is nice also. Port O Call Restaurant and Saloon is a fun place and The Colington Cafe is a top 10 restaurant on the OBX for dinner only.

                Carawan Seafood @ 5424 North Croatan Highway, Kitty Hawk, NC 252 - 261 - 2120.

Just on caveat/hint for Lone Cedar - stick the the basic and/or classic NC preparations. The Calabash style seafood is good, as are the vegetables. The fusion/special preparations I've had are not the best.
