Watercress in Sherman Oaks

Have they closed? What if anything is replacing?

  1. Yes, Watercress closed about 2 weeks ago, and Cava, and Italian-ish place is moving in, with Dana's old phone number.
Watercress will not be missed when Sweet Butter opens across from Stanleys, maybe in October, or thereabouts.
However, Pane Dolce should be worried.

Crap (but not terribly surprised actually) - bought a groupon certificate for them a little while ago.

I will really miss Watercress-- a truly charming cafe with wonderful, fresh, carefully prepared salads, sandwiches, soups, etc. Any further information about La Cava? When will it open; any word on the quality of their food? Sherman Oaks doen't need another routine Italian, but a quality Italian trattoria would be much appreciated. Also, anyone know when Sweet Butter will actually open? And will that also offer dinner or just breakfast & lunch?

The window of Cava is still papered over, as of this morning.
Sweet Butter Kitchen appears to still have a ways to go before opening, and I would expect they would start with Breakfast and lunch only, working their way toward dinner once the kinks and staffing are worked out.
But I will talk to Leslie this week to get more details on date/timing issues.

I am Leslie, the owner of Sweet Butter, and I just wanted to give you all a heads up! We are planning on opening mid-October. I have an amazing contractor who is working around the clock to make that happen. We were hoping to open after Labor Day, but I'll take October...my favorite cooking month! We will be serving breakfast and lunch and will work our way towards a daily take-away dinner special. (Think Mom's homestyle suppers kicked up a notch, like Chicken Pot Pie with Organic Veggies and Herbed Buttermilk Biscuits.) A hint of what's to come for breakfast....Sweet Butter's signature breakfast sandwich featuring Sunny-Side up Farm Eggs on Grilled Country Bread with Nueskes Cherrywood Smoked Bacon, Roasted Tomatoes, Arugula and our very own Dijon Aioli
The sandwich tastes even better with a hot cup of Intelligentsia coffee, (If you've never had a cup of Intelligentsia, you are in for a treat!)
We have been perfecting and tweaking our menu for months now and think our customers will be quite pleased! Visit our site, www.sweetbutterkitchen.com for updates!
We can't wait to see you at Sweet Butter!

Hi Leslie of Sweet Butter. You've created a great place but you really need to train your kids on the coffee machines! It's SLOW and they really don't know what they're doing. Don't lose all your customers to Starbucks!

This is where Watercress used to be. I ate there last night and it is EXCELLENT! Finally, an authentic Italian restaurant on Ventura Blvd. The menu is the menu you've been waiting for, not over-ambitious and very typically Tuscan. The owner, Armando Pucci, is one of the original partners of La Buca on Melrose. Ask him for recommendations. It is going to be hard to keep me away from this place! At the moment it is 'bring your own wine' until he gets his license in February.
