I thought I'd bump this once to see if anyone has an opinion yet.

I've been to all three more than once, Buca IMO....

I've eaten at Buca many times, Scarpetta twice and Quanto Basta only once (for lunch). My preference is Buca. I would say the food at Buca was slightly better than the food at Scarpetta, although I did enjoy both. Truthfully, I was expecting to be wowed at Scarpetta and I left feeling underwhelmed. Not that the food wasn't good, just that it wasn't exceptional. Quanto Basta is definitely in third place (although, to be fair, I did go for lunch!) In terms of atmosphere - Buca - no question. I've had late weekday dinners at Scarpetta twice and, maybe it's just the time of day, but it felt like a nightclub for 20 somethings (barely dressed girls and tight shirted men were gathered at the bar in the Thomspon hotel and kept walking through the restaurant seemingly aimlessly). Buca has a more sophisticated vibe to me.

Can't give an opinion on Quanto Basta, but having only been to Buca and Scarpetta once apiece, I'd return to Buca before Scarpetta.

If I was paying I'd go to Buca. If someone else was paying, Scarpetta no problem.

Haven't been to Scarpetta yet but Buca and Quanto Basta aren't even remotely in the same league. Of the two, for me, Buca is the clear winner.

Based on anecdotal evidence (backed up by Amy_whino) it's:

Buca > Scarpetta > Quanto Basta

Maybe what PP meant is that Scarpetta is ultra high end like Canoe, whereas Buca/QB is a couple notches below like Globe Earth or Lee or something, thus it's in a "different league."

Regardless, Buca is a good choice.

Hmn. I read that as Quanto Basta isn't in the same league as Buca.

But agreed! Buca is a good choice to me :)

To clarify...I was mostly referring to the calibre of food, though the atmospheres are obviously different as well. I haven't had one standout dish at Quanto Basta, there have been service problems. It's a fun, neighbourhood boite for slightly better than average food. I would go back there for some proximate neighbourhood vibe first, food second (and food is decent, just not stellar). Buca is a food-first destination with some standout dishes, great service and great vibe.

I still haven't eaten at Scarpetta but I was at a party there last week and they were serving some food that was apparently off their menu - a foie gras ravioli, spaghetti pomodoro, braised shortribs on some kind of squares, maybe polenta - have to say that it was a pretty fantastic.

I'm taking my most special gf out for her bd. Sounds like Buca gets the nod. Thanks everyone.
