Drift - a new Bloordale bar with great sandwiches
Casa Mendoca, at Bloor and Bartlett, recently shut down and has been under renovations for a few weeks. Finally, Drift opened in its place. I popped in yesterday to check it out, and found a lovely little bar with some casual, homemade grub: soups, salads, sandwiches and sides. My partner and I split a prosciutto, melon and cheddar sandwich on homemade bread. It was really good, and for $7, it can't be beat.
The owner told us that they'll be switching up the menu every couple of days, and will depend on what they pick up around the neighbourhood (inc. the Dufferin Grove market - they had some really nice looking heirloom tomatoes on the counter).
Their selection of beers was quite good, too. Check it out!
Went here for brunch this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. I had the basic breakfast -- they have salads, sandwiches as well as specials. Perfectly poached eggs, decent fruit salad and awesome hash browns that are actually more like shoestring chips. (If anyone remembers the hashbrowns at Mel's, they're like that.) Good cappuccino, too.
Note that they automatically butter the toast and in my view, they use way too much. But I usually eat toast dry, so I'm not the best judge.
I'm dying to try the veggie burger. It's apparently a beet burger with hummus.
