It's a new burger joint and it was rated the best burger in a customer poll by Zagats. People seem love it.
There are a couple stores here, one in Edina and the other in Maple Grove. I checked out the one in Edina. It was good. They keep the menu very simple and the burger actually tastes like there is a piece of meat (beef from a cow) inside the bun. The fries were great too, very nice when fresh and hot. And the ingredients were fresh. It's been 24 hours since I had my bacon cheeseburger and fries, and I don't have a disgusting greasy aftertaste that lingers in your mouth after eating from other popular "burger" joints. I'm not really a big beef burger guy (I prefer turkey), but I'd consider going back.
And another twist to this place is that it offers complimentary shell peanuts.
FIve guys is dangerously close to my house. Too close. It's way too easy to go over there for a burger. They're pretty good, but total junk food. There's 1464 calories in their large fries! They seem to intentionally hide the nutritional information on their website.
They started here in DC years ago. A few things you should know:
-Consistancy varies wildly from store to store. One will be excellent while another will be sloppy.
-If the fries are soggy, that usually means you left them in the bag too long. The fries bag should be opened ASAP, otherwise the steam builds up and you end up with soggy fries.
-The double-patty burger can be overkill; a lot of people can get by with just the single patty. Also, the hotdog is really good.
-Unless you're feeding a family of four, you can save a few bucks and just order the small fries.
