Coming to town in a week. Can you folks recommend a lively, hip, and wonderful pan Asian restaurant not too far out from the center? Friends have suggested Betelnut and Butterfly. Many thanks

Butterfly is not considered particularly great, does fit the circumstances.

Not sure if you mean "pan asian" or "asian fusion". SD I woudn't call Pan Asian. It's neo-vietnamese or viet-fusion or something. All the tastes cluster very close to Vietnam, nothing Chinese or Japanese or Korean about it.

Look up E&O Trading. Some good reports on some dishes.

Skool has recently opened. Not much here on the board about it. "Uni Flan" should clearly count as hip and asian-fusion.

House is actually good. Likely what I'd consider the number one rec.

Straights is downtown. I loved so much their branch in the avenues, and I hate so much their branch on the peninsula, but I haven't been to the one downtown, so can't recommend.

And --- no idea what "the center" is.

There have been several writeups of Skool, and it's a great choice. It's not that easy to get to without a car but one of the Potrero Hill buses stops nearby.

I'd suggest just going to any good modern Asian restaurant though.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "the center". Downtown maybe? Anyway, check out The House too. It's in North Beach.
