Has anyone seen fresh lovage in any markets? Or am I too late in the season?

Plant some in a spare corner and you will never run out -- and once in a while it'll bolt a flower stalk seven feet high like gimlis', plus it'll be a haven for swallowtail caterpillars. In the meantime, just use celery leaves and noone will know...

I haven't seen it, but the plant that'sin my garden bolted like I've never seen a plant bolt before. I don't know if it's the plant's age (3 years) or the crazy summer we're having, but both it and my sorrel shot up to lofty heights, went to seed, and died off. I'm waiting to see if it recovers in the fall....if some new shoots emerge I'd be happy to give you some.

Lovage will run through late October with a lull in a couple of weeks between plantings. I bet if you ran into Dave Gilson at the farmers market he could arrange to get some to you at a future market. Or you could have a Whole Foods get some from Eva's Garden. They might do that for you, but between her prices and theirs, that might cost you an arm and a leg for a couple of spindly twigs.
