Best Cupcakes in RI (Providence area)?

I read an article recently (in Providence Monthly, I believe) about a slew of new cupcake bakeries in RI. Can anyone recommend something really special from among these new offerings?

Well, I went ahead and tried Bakery Boutique in Smithfield as I read they had twice won "best cupcake" in the annual RI Monthly poll. I tried four different flavors-- lemon, nutella, chocolate, and raspberry chocolate. All were quite underwhelming. The cupcakes were rather dry and not particularly flavorful. The frosting unremarkable and a bit grainy. Oh well. Cross that one off the list.

I agree. The Bakery Boutique is okay, but nothing out of the ordinary. Seems pretty expensive for the small sized cupcakes that you get. The owners are super nice, but maybe they expanded too fast?

I can't claim to have any comparison, but we often have cupcakes from The Edge cafe in Wayland Square. Nothing super unique or outrageous, but my wife likes them (and she's something of a cupcake snob).

I'll have to try The Edge then. I've had totally amazing desserts (carrot cake to die for) from the cooler at Farmstead (Laiterie has the best desserts in Providence in my opinion) but their cupcakes aren't exceptional. I may try Cupcakerie in Cranston next as I've heard good reports.

Please report back! I'd love to hear if the cupcakerie is worth the drive. I completely agree about the desserts at La Laiterie, too.

I've had really good cupcakes at the Duck & Bunny on Wickenden Street.
Here's a link to their cupcake menu:

Thank you so much for posting this! I needed 30 mini cupcakes in a hurry, called them, and was absolutely delighted by the assortment they provided. The chocolate espresso ones were particularly good. On the phone, staff were terrific. I will definitely be buying more cupcakes from them.

I have had the best cupcakes lately from the Duck and Bunny on Wickenden. The Red Velvet is perfection. Only wish the service was a bit better-sort of slow in the we really could care kind of way. The girls are nice, but they sure take their time, in between chats.
