Mr. Tasty in Astoria

A bizarre little stand has opened on Astoria Blvd by 23rd (near City View Pharmacy). Mr. Tasty is a food truck permanently parked in the lot of a construction business office. There is a fenced area in front with tables, chairs and a garish red and orange awning bearing a smiling chef logo. What does Mr. Tasty serve? A little bit of everything it seems. From Shanghai Chicken rolls to Greek salad, empanadas to burgers or kebabs to hot dogs, this place has just about every grilled or fried cuisine covered. But the real attraction here are the prices.

For $5 I got a the kind of burger deluxe that usually costs $8-10 at a diner. Kebabs are 3 for $3 or $1.25 each, chicken souvlaki is $2 and so on. The quality of my burger certainly won't put Shake Shack out of business, but for an affordable lunch it was better than McD's or BK. There is also a bit of a show as the 2 guys in the truck keep comically bumping into each other. They just opened this week and there are some opening week jitters, but I can see myself picking up lunch here once a week.

I walked by it on Monday night and became intrigued. It is the oddest little place with the strangest little menu ... but fun. I had just eaten (focaccia at LoRusso's) but the owners had some samples out. They were pretty good. Looks like a great place if you have the munchies.

Love LoRusso's, just happy to see a little variety in the neighborhood.
