Pizza insanity

Im losing my mind here in LA...first, im dyin to get up North to try Anthony Mangieri's new pizzeria when it opens and now im informed that Tony Gemignani is or has opened a coal burning pizzeria next door to his first resto...How did SF allow the permits to burn coal? anyone been yet?

  1. The coal oven has apparently been there for generations so it's grandfathered in. It just opened:

        Not sure about the coal oven being there for generations -- it wasn't there for La Spiaggia or Palermo delis, and the place was a Chinese herb shop for years before either of those. Nonetheless, I'm a fan...

      2. A little closer to home for you, urbn pizza in Vista and San Diego. Here's my report on the coal-fired pizza on the San Diego board. At the Vista shop, the staff said the oven was new, so I guess not a problem down there.
