despair re Penn Station area
I need to entertain foreign guests on their way through NYC -- they are getting off one train, spending time with me (not during lunch), then getting back on another train.
Please recommend a non-sleazy, calm place I can entertain them for a couple hours. THANKS!

Keens is open from 11:45 a.m. straight through the day, Mon.-Fri. You can hang out in the Bar Room, have drinks and some snacks. I think your foreign guests will get a kick out of Keens' Old NY ambiance.

If there's time, I recommend walking over to Bryant Park, but that probably doesn't work for you.
Two nice places, considering.
Lugo Caffe
http://www.lugocaffe.com/A standard blue collar pub. Not sleazy.
Blaggard's Pub
http://www.blaggardsnyc.com/Two after 5pm joints.
Just on the west side of 1 Penn Plaza are Local and Luci. They're both open patio bars popular among the after work crowd.

What day of the week and what time? You mean mid-afternoon? Are you looking for a meal at a restaurant? Snacks at a bar or lounge (like hanging out at the Ace Hotel lobby for a few hours)?

re: jgruman
There is a lounge menu with food from the Breslin and you can have coffee, a cocktail, beer, not sure about tea but I'd imagine yes.
I love hanging out at the Ace Hotel lobby during the day because the couches are comfy and the A/C is lovely on a hot day, and the snack menu is pretty good -- salads, grilled cheese, cheese board, etc.
