Pre Theatre Dinner Saturday August 21st

We are Chowhounders in from Toronto for 15th wedding anniversary. As usual, I am planning this last minute. I got a reservation on Friday for Degustation and I thought we might try for a drink at Barrio Chino. I need help with Saturday night though. We have theatre tickets for American Idiot at the St. James on West 44th between 7th and 8th. Any suggestions for pre-theatre and post theatre would be very much appreciated. The hotel got us a table at Bar Americain, but it seems so touristy. Also, any recommendations for a deli in Brooklyn in the Grand and Bushwick Ave area would be appreciated. Many thanks.

There's a lot of closer places in the neighborhood including Mayahuel (craft cocktails based around tequila and mezcal), which is fantastic and one of the best in the city if you like those spirits. It's also a 5 minute walk from Degustation, if that. Yerba Buena has a good cocktail list, too with similar flavor profiles.

I'm a huge fan of the pre-theatre at Tocqueville, which is an easy cab ride to the theatre (or subway if you are comfortable with that). In the theatre district (or near), I am also a fan of the DB Bistro Moderne prix fixe (sometimes you have to ask to see that menu, but they always have it). It can get loud in there, though. Another option is to eat at the Bar Room of the Modern at MOMA. Always a good meal (don't know how late they are open but good for post, too).

The Bar Room at the Modern is open fairly late and I think the food is better than db bistro moderne, but it's also a different style.

          Bar Room Hours:
          Monday - Thursday 11:30 am - 10:30 pm
Friday and Saturday 11:30 am - 11:00 pm
          Sunday 11:30 am - 9:30 pm

But as RGR mentions, it's difficult to make recommendations without knowing more specifics.

I am not a fan of Bar Amercain. Not because some consider it touristy (tourists abound in restaurants all over the Theater District), but because the one meal we had there was pretty awful. And to add insult to gustatory injury, it was fairly expensive.

In order to provide appropriate dinner suggestions, you need to give us some specifics. What are your cuisine preferences for this meal? Do you want something casual or fancy? What is your budget for food only (drinks, tax & tip additional)?

P.S. For deli recs in Brooklyn, you need to post on the Outer Boroughs board.
