As a a CI resident I've tried them all and chimed in on all these recent CI posts. Here's my run down. I'll leave out the two big clam/shrimp bars Johnny's and Tony's and just focus on the sit downs.
In my opinion there are two class acts. The Sea Shore and Artie's.
The Sea Shore has great service, I've never been disappointed. You get a relish platter the minute you sit down and minutes later a huge basket of garlickly garlic bread that they will happilly refill. Sea Shore is IMHO the best place for large lobsters and clam chowder. The broiled fish is good too. This is where I take out of towners. Also huge cocktails and good umbrella drinks
Artie's is an Italian style seafood place. They have a really great zuppa di pesce for two and very creditable steaks and yes surf and turf too. Anything with red sauce is good too, their marina is vey good. Nice ambiance and a bit of romance too.
For a simpler new england feel I reccomend the Lobster House, lots of outdoor deck tables in season and IMHO the best steamers in season. The quality is predictable and the fish is fresh and not drenched kayola gold and paprika, which is not something I can say of some of the others farther down CI Avenue.
I generally avoid all the rest except for The Snug which is a pub menu placew with really good clam strips and fish and chips.
