      Wurstkuche has a vegetarian option.
If it's dinner you might try Lazy Ox.

Actually, I'd like to change my vote to Lazy Ox as well.

          2. re: cls

Totally wholeheartedly endorse the Lazy Ox Canteen.

            Second Rivera. Awesome mixology.

What are the vegetarian options at Coles? I don't recall them (but then again I'm there for a dip sandwich with meat).

              1. re: Servorg

Cole's makes a decent grilled cheese sandwich, and along with some cole slaw or mac n cheese, and I think a vegetarian would not leave hungry, or unhappy.

                But who knows ...

                1. re: ipsedixit

I like Cole's, and The Varnish is a great place for drinks. They both meet the "good fun" requirement, but I would say fall short of the "great food."

                  1. re: cls

I really like the food at Cole's! Lamb French Dip, atomic pickle, bacon potato salad, and sweet potato fries...mmm...

            2. All good suggestions so far. For a place with some atmosphere, Laxy Ox would fit the bill. Wurstkushe is a biergarten and don't forget to order the truffle fries. At first I thought Cole's was a bad choice, but their menu is slightly updated and in the back is a speakeasy bar that is well regarded, The Varish. Next door is a much busier bar called The Association. Also look into Chaya Downtown, Drago, and Bottega Louie in that order. And of course Ludobites, if you are luck enough to get a reservation. PS If you want a really fun time, leave the vegetarian at home : )

              Chaya Downtown
525 S. Flower Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071

              1. One other place to consider (not fancy by any stretch of the imagination - but then again you have a pretty wide range on that scale already) but the food is quite good: Colori Kitchen.

ahh..fun place (not bar like fun) but a casual laid back atmosphere...plus unlimited $0 corkage on wine!!!

                2. Wood Spoon downtown is a fun, interesting place.

                  1. Rivera and Lazy Ox are both great options and you won't find both types of restaurants in SD

                    1. Corkbar would be another good option for you, at a slightly lower price point than Lazy Ox.

                      1. If any of them are into beer, try the Yard House in the LA Live complex. Over 100 beers on tap. And large menu. The cuban french dip sandwich is to die for!!

They could stay in San Diego if they want to just go to the Yardhouse. Dublin's us supposed to be opening downtown soon.

                        2. Nothing beats Bottega Louie. And then go across to Seven Grand after!

Bottega Louie is great fun (and louder than The Who in concert), but not so great food. There is better Italian to be had only 2 blocks away at Colori Kitchen, in fact.
