Eating around Colchester

A week's break in the Essex estuaries is a real rest cure. A huge lunch at the Company Shed today - a cold platter of smoked mackerel and salmon, crab, cockles, crevettes and assorted other bits, along with 6 creamy Gigas oysters and some brilliant seared scallops, was just the ticket (and SUCH good value too). I did notice lots of Chinese customers, which got me thinking - and one of the staff told me the local chinese community were very regular visitors - whether there were any interesting Chinese eats in the area. Or does anyone have any other recommendations around here?

We have a friend who lives in not too far away Maldon. We once found a Chinese buffet outside the town, but I'm sorry not to remember the name. It was only fair but the buffet was huge and a few dishes were OK. There are some nice pubs in and around Maldon - maybe one of the food guidebooks would mention a couple. If nothing else, a stroll along the promenade out to an outstanding statue is a really nice thing to do.
