from what I understand, most joints in Hali and the surrounding areas get their roti sheets shipped in from Toronto, since most find it cost prohibitive to make their own. Some places will be kind enough to sell you a couple sheets, but you may have to check to see if anyone in T.O. would be willing to ship what you need to The Rock. Otherwise, you could try and make your own roti. Same goes for dalh puri. Is dahl or dahl flour difficult to locate there?

re: lafarzia
Seems like if a west indian restaurant opened here in St. John's it would do pretty darn good. I remember a few years ago I was here and there was a place opened downtown but I guess it didn't survive. I didn't try it since I was living in Toronto at the time and had easy access to all the Dahl Puri, Roti or Buss Up Shot I wanted! What I wouldn't do now to have a feed of it!

re: lafarzia
How are you doing ?? Pregnancy can give you the gimmies now syndrome!!! LOL But it would be nice to have some doubles, some roti, some dahl puri and so the list goes on. Someone should open a shop!! I do not know if there are alot of West Indians here....cannot blame them as it is damn cold!!...but do you think a shop would have a pretty good future here???

OK folks, I have been talking to some people to get roti shipped to the rock. Would anyone else be interested in getting in on this? We would pay for our own rotis and split the cost of shipping.... dhalpuri and paratha. I would prefer to make one big shipment and stick them in ym freezer. My last pregnancy, I ate dhalpuri for breakfast lunch and dinner!!! lol I am thinking about getting 100 each for myself. I think that should last me for a while.... Let me know! You are also welcome to email me at farzia1980@hotmail.com

re: lafarzia
I have never gotten an answer for that beautiful, wonderfull roti/dahl puri. Sure I could make it but I do not have the time nor the patience...arthritis does not help either!!! My husband is from Guyana where this is a common every day feast...as is TnT and of course the Carribean. I have stood up in mid Port of Spain and devoured a chicken( luv the bones)curry roti...heaven!!!
We had some from Halifax...awful!!!! Sometimes we get them from Montreal...great or TO...also great. Guess there is not an easier way to get this treat in our neck of the woods. There was a small shop down near the Murray Premises...alas...gone!!! We need a place to sell, eat and buy West Indian stuff..produce too..what I would give for pumpkin and a piece of breadfruit!!!!
Thanks for replys everyone. Keep in touch!!
