    1. Sonoma County is one of the largest in California. Be sure to search this board for Healdsburg, Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Geyersville, Petaluma, etc. You will many, many posts and helpful recommendations already here for you to review.

Thanks! We will be staying in Petaluma.

In Petaluma, the Central Market (despite the name) is a very good restaurant. Dempsey's is very good for more casual dining. The Della Fattoria bakery in Petaluma is also worth a visit.

I would definitely do searches for Petaluma, Santa Rose & Healdsburg. You will find much of interest.

Second on Dempsey's. Very pleasant place and much better than average brewpub food.

The Della Fattoria cafe has great sandwiches, pizzas, salads, and pastries.

I'd head out 116 to Sebastopol and the Russian River wine country rather than getting into the freeway traffic around Santa Rosa.

Water Street Bistro in downtown Petaluma, with a patio on the river, is (to me) a cross between a deli and cafe and owned by a credentialed chef. It's a place I take visitors to. Viva Cocolat is also in downtown Petaluma if you're a chocolate lover; great European Sipping Chocolate.

On Hwy 116 as you near Sebastopol is La Bodega Kitchen/Sonoma Wine Shop where the chef makes ravioli from scratch (and other great food) and you can taste their very-well-selected wines. It's a no-glitz friendly place with very good food and wine.
