Where to buy bulk oysters in Seattle area?

  • 7

I've found a solid selection of fresh oysters held in circulating water tanks at Central Market in Mill Creek. Prices per dozen are $7.99 - 12.99. The stores stocks 5-6 kinds.

Where else can I buy several dozen oysters at a time?

  1. Mutual Fish in the Rainier Valley has an excellent selection properly fresh in circulated water.
They sometimes have fresh wild sun fish from the Midwest that are wonderful fried in corn meal.

    1. I buy from University Seafood and also Taylor Shellfish at the farmer's markets.

If you're looking to get a bunch of oysters from Taylor at the farmer's market, you might want to call ahead to let'em know. (they might be able to offer a discount)

      2. Great suggestions. Thanks much!

        1. Jack's Fish Spot in Pike Place Market is where I get my bushels of oysters.

There is a great Seafood store that just opened on Mercer Island called Freshy's Seafood. They are sourcing oysters from Willipa Bay--both in the shell and shucked. I originally bought about dozen of them shucked yesterday. They were so good that I went back and bought a 1/2 gallon container later in the day. I do not know what their address is but here is there phone number: 206-232-3028.

Fried oysters tonight, gumbo tomorrow and smoking oysters this weekend. Yum!

          2. The Viet-Wah, HT Mart, and other Asian groceries have the best deals. But the first two I have found price a dozen oysters in the shell for about $8 a bag, and sometimes cheaper. It's a great deal. The Viet Wah had bags of oysters (24 a bag) that priced them less than .50 each, i think. The Viet Wah is on Jackson St. in China Town.
