Fun Dinner for 4 couples in September, Soho, West Village, Meatpacking ares...

We are meeting in the city a Saturday night in September. Would like to find a fun place with great food and reasonably priced drinks. Looking for entrees under $40. Looking for interesting cuisine, but we have a couple who are not very daring so Italian, Spanish, Mediterranean or New American - with a twist. 2 of us are staying in Soho, 2 in Union Square, want to stay in that area or downtown. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you are willing to go for latin cuisine, Yerba Buena (or its sister Yerba Buena Perry) is known for both its food and its drinks.
Another possibility is Mercat: Catalan small plates/tapas, with a bit of a buzz in the air but not uncomfortably crowded.
Bar Blanc Bistro flies a bit under the radar; however, not sure how well they can accomodate larger groups. A bit of a rustic edge to the atmosphere, and very solid food offerings (including their mac&cheese with truffle, better than expectations!)

Bar Blanc closed several months ago. I would recommend Perilla. I also had a surprisingly good dinner recently at Union Square Cafe. It's less adventurous than what I normally prefer, but what they do, they do very well.

A shame! I missed that...we must have gone shortly before their closing. I was worried that might happen, as it did not seem on the radar at all.
I do love Perilla, though it may not be as "daring" as what the OP was looking for.

I thought the OP was looking for not daring?

sorry I was thinking about the adjectives "fun and interesting" and saw daring in the post, without realizing she had said one couple was not.

I just wrote a review about Wallse in the West Village. All entree's around around 30 dollars and prepared absolutely perfectly. I'd recommend everyone get a different desert afterwards and share as well, $10-$12 each. The dishes are all very special but not necessarily too experimental, so daring and not daring should both be okay. Here's the review too:

Craft is also great, as is Recette if you guys want to share a bunch of different things.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I made a reservation for Perilla (I am a huge TC fan so why not?)
