40th Birthday Dinner (Surprise) Recommendations in Hoboken/Jersey City

For a friend's birthday, we are doing a small surprise dinner for him and are trying to find a location. I'm not too familiar with the Hoboken/Jersey City area, so hoping someone can help point us in a few directions.

We are looking for a place that can hold 20-25 people, preferably with a room and/or area that can be sectioned off for us.

Everyone will be chipping in, so we're looking middle of the road as far as price goes (around $40 per person before booze).

And bonus points if they will work with us to do a fixed menu (mostly to help figure out the price for everyone).

Thanks!

Check out Gaslight in Hoboken - especially if its in the summer - they are slow and might give you entire back room. They have a $25 prix-fixe. and have reasonable bottles of wine for $25.

Renato's in Jersey City is very good for a party. They are connected to Pizza Master but the private entrance is around the corner on Cambridge Avenue. They have a private room downstairs and it is very nice and the food is excellent.

The Light Horse in Jersey City is middle of the road with a room in back that might fit you just fine

I think Amanda's may have a private room, but I think there price is a little more than you were looking at. The Elysian Cafe is owned by Amanda's and their price point may be lower. They have a room that they may be able to section off for you. They are located on 10th and Washington. Good Luck!
