Looking for good sushi - Danforth & Broadview

Is there good sushi within walking distance of Danforth and Broadview.

  1. Nope. I live at Danforth and Broadview and while this neighborhood has some pretty good dining options, sushi sadly isn't one of them. If, however, you're willing to try a place that recently opened called "Casa Sushi" -- surely not a good sign -- I may be proven wrong, but I doubt it. Depends on what you consider to be good sushi, I guess.

Also, if you have a car there's a Japanese owned and operated restaurant on Laird called Mikado Sushi that's pretty good and has an authentic atmosphere -- don't be thrown off by the somewhat bizarre location. Good luck on your search.

I order delivery from Casa Sushi. Better by far than Katsu or Aji Sai in terms of quality of the fish and overall freshness. And their black cod appetizer is actually quite good.

    2. You're better off taking a taxi to Mikado Sushi or Nigiri-Ya. They're both less than 10 minutes away if you go via the Millwood bridge.

We do take out from Aji Sai at least once a month. Perhaps sushi experts would not agree, but it suits our needs. Good selection, reasonable prices, and everything is always very tasty. It's not high end, but as I say, it meets our rather pedestrian needs and satisfies our craving.

Love their tokoyo tuna or spicy tuna roll.

Aji Sai is my choice on the Danforth.

Does anyone know about the status of bicycle parking around these places on Laird?

          1. re: Pincus

I haven't noticed anything specific other than the usual no parking signs to lock the bike up to.

      2. Depends on your definition of 'good'. There's a few adequate sushi outlets in the area.

There was a great sushi restaurant called Lilly right on Broadview, north of Danforth. They were probably the most upscale of the area. Sadly, they are no longer in business.

We do take-out or delivery (since it's more convenient with two young kids) with places like Aji Sai and Sushi Delight. I prefer Aji Sai to Sushi Delight, but the latter is cheerfully cheap. When Casa Sushi opened, I thought it would be exactly like Sushi Delight, and in a way, it is. The selection is huge, and the prices are hard to beat. I went there recently and tried their lunch special. For $7.50, I was blown away by what I had. Fresh pieces of salmon sashimi, delicious crispy rolls (like california rolls, only with bits of tempura in the middle), soup, salad, fruit, and dumplings that just knocked my socks off. These dumplings had sauteed mushroom bits in them - so yummy. Anyway, my review is based on one dine-in experience and one delivery experience for what it's worth. But, if you're looking for an affordable place with good options, I would give Casa Sushi a try.

Casa Sushi is win. I was recently introduced to this place by a good friend. When I used to frequent the area we settled on Mariko because the lunch specials were good but the quality seemed to get worse over time. Then when I moved further east we started going to Happy Sushi (Woodbine/Danny) which is not too bad.

But this place is a lot better. The Unagi Edon was very tasty, tender and fat. Great services and selection, the sushi pieces were great.

I recommend trying the Snow White roll, The Sake Fried Jumbo Tiger shrimp appetizer, and the ramen soups.

Over all, great value for the prices.
