Memphis BBQ Question.............

I know. There have been hundred but this has to do with location. I have friends from CA coming to Memphis for a FB game in Oxford, MS in September or October. They are staying on Poplar near I 240. They arrive on Friday and leave Monday morning. They have Friday and Sunday nights for BBQ in Memphis. Saturday they will be in Oxford all day.

I suggested they have dinner Friday night at Payne's, Central or BBQ Shop because all three are fairly close to their hotel. They want to visit Beale St. and The Peabody Sunday. I suggested they do that then return to their hotel to change and then have dinner Sunday night at Germantown Commissary. What's your suggestions. Thanks.

  1. Keep in mind that Payne's is not open very late. Central and BBQ Shop are, though. Any of those 3, as you know, would be fine choices. If I had to pick one, it would probably be the BBQ shop because their ribs AND their shoulder are outstanding.

    1. if staying near poplar/240, suggest Neely's on Mt. Moriah; commissary is good, be prepared for a line on Sunday night. Central BBQ also is good

      1. We did BBQ Shop last week and loved it.

If they are going to Peabody for the ducks have them there at least half hour before the walk. We got there about 10 til and it was packed. We stood on the mezzanine and could see but they are pretty small from up there. Guess they're pretty small from everywhere, but get there early.

Thank you all for the very nice responses. Littleman suggested I log on here myself to clarify my request. It does look like Friday night will work at BBQ Shop. Everything I have read sounds fantastic. Sunday afternoon, thinking about doing Gus' Fried Chicken for something different, but Sunday night is still open. Thinking either Central BBQ or Germantown Commissary. I see a suggestion for Neely's on here, what is their specialty? Thanks all for the kind responses! Very much looking forward to this trip.
