Need new gas stove?

walker Aug 16, 2010 03:09 AM

The gas jets on all 4 burners just stopped working on my Montgomery Ward stove. It was here when I got the house 17 years ago -- I would not be surprised if it were 35 years old.

So, I'm thinking it's time to buy a new one rather than go repair route. It's 30 inches wide. I've always disliked it since broiler is way on the bottom so I never broil anything.

I have a stainless steel Jenn-aire fridge and a Miele ss dishwasher, both about 2 years old. What should I buy? The sky IS NOT the limit.

Any ideas about hoods?

I recently got a Maytag from Lowes... 4 sealed burners, and the broiler is in-oven (which means I can use the drawer to store cookie sheets!
Here is the link to the SS version $649 :

Thanks for the reply. I went looking yesterday and really liked a Viking (designer series which is less $ than other Viking models!) but that and a hood come to about $5,000 so I'm going the repair route, at least for a few months.

I have a bosch integra top of the line dual fuel, got it scratch and dent shop, had the repairman come make it new, bosch stood behind it, no cost to me, it took a few visits, now all is well and have been happy with so far.......a cheaper route to go vs paying thousands for a range that performs.

Such as www.searsoutlet.com, they have floor models, customer returns, units that might have minor damage from shipping. Looks like they are in Hayward and San Leandro in the SF Bay Area.
