falafel question

miramar619 Aug 15, 2010 09:47 PM

Does anyone know of a place in NYC/tri-state area that sells a good Damascus-style falafel sandwich? By Damascus-style I mean: thin Lebnani bread, rolled up with fresh tomato, cucumber, thin pickled vegetables, fresh mint, sweet bbq/pomegranate sauce, tahini, hot sauce, etc. The closest I've had is Aloosh in Paterson, NJ which is sadly now closed.

The falafel I have had in New York is almost always in a round puffy pita, with lettuce or cabbage, hummus, diced tomatoes, etc. and is just a different beast.

Many thanks.

Damascus Bakery, on Atlantic Ave, in Brooklyn has thin pita (always fresh & dselicious. I've never had their falafel, but based on their name, I'd say your odds are pretty good.

Alfanoose in the Financial District sounds like they have what you're looking for. I don't recall a sweet bbq/pomegranate sauce though.
