Need a fun restaurant near Chelsea/Hell's Kitchen
I'm meeting an overworked friend for dinner in New York and I'm excited to treat her to a great night out. We are both very, very adventurous eaters and the food is our top priority. I'm staying at a hotel on West 40th between 8th and 9th. We don't want to stray too far from the hotel.
A side challenge... we are eating out this Monday night, so I know that leaves a lot of options out.
Thanks!

Two suggestions: Walkable for your guest and a short ride for you would be Craft (www.craftrestaurant.com) @ 19th & 5th. Great food, wine, & ambiance (plus similar bill!). Also, I am write this with a little reluctance: Wolfgang's (www.wolfgangssteakhouse.com). Perfect location for the two of you and great steaks and wine, to be sure--better than many others in NYC; BUT, these are ex-Luger folks and if you are not a regular, be prepared to treated as such. IMO, go early or skip it. Please let us know what you ultimately decide and how it all works out.

re: thew
thew, we are looking for something unique and delicious. We'd be happy with really authentic thai, modern mexican or locally-focused American cuisine to name a few. If you were eating in the area we mentioned, where would you go? We can't break the bank (we'd rather not eat anywhere too formal anyways), but we aren't on a super tight budget. I'd hate to narrow down my focus too much because then we might be missing something amazing!

I'm the "overworked friend" and we're actually hoping to find something in between thunderbug's hotel (W 40th between 8th and 9th) and the hospital where I work (26th st and 1st Ave) if possible. Obviously if there is somewhere that's not quite in the middle but has great food I'm willing to travel more. Thanks!
