Need recommendations quick - good restaurants in Bloor West Village?

Got some friends coming on short notice and they want to eat in Bloor West Village or close. The Junction would be ok too. I don't eat out often so I don't know where to take them. Do people have recommendations for really consistently good restaurants? I can't get what cuisine they want to eat, so I'm guessing anything goes. Thanks in advance!

17 Steps down 17 steps between Chapters and the Pizza joint have a melt-in-your-mouth lamb burger and frites. Interesting menu, fine pints of Moretti on tap.

17 Steps? Are we talking about the place between the Pizza Pizza and health food store? Use to be called the Woodhouse/Woodshed?

It's a little hidden, as you have to walk downstairs.

That's it, 17 Steps. In my experience the food is middling, with very small portions, but the drinks at the bar are excellent - well mixed and generous. The decor is great and the ambience is really nice.

Try Aquila, Keele and Dundas...Nice veggies and seafood, Italian-Adriatic style. Entrees under $24. Chef-owner smokes his own back ribs and salmon....dee-licious!!

Meh. Don't bother, IMHO. I'm sure they mean well, but the food really didn't impress me. I think Sushi Villa is the place that Snarf is thinking of, and, yes, it is pretty decent sushi, at least compared to the other options in the 'hood. At Yellow Griffin, expect surly service and sub-par food. Otherwise, I would recommend a chicken wing crawl along the Bloor West strip. My Place does a decent (but different) take on wings, and Dark Horse has some good traditional ones. Nothing beats a chicken wing pub crawl, methinks, and BWV has some decent options...

Yama is *far* better than Sushi Villa, IMHO. I tried Sushi Villa once and won't be back. Yama and Yumi (a few doors apart from each other) are my go-to places for sushi in this neighborhood. The rest aren't worth a return visit in my experience.

There are delicious homemade perogies, cabbage rolls, schnitzels and borscht to be had at Amber European on the north side of Bloor a couple of blocks east of Jane.

Not sure the name of it, but the sushi place in the strip mall next to the No Frills is quite good. Innovative sushi, and a fair number of grill items, which sets it apart from the other neighbourhood places.

AS for pub food, try the roof deck at My Place. One of the better burgers in the city, and a nice space. Better quality in general than the rest of the local places. The Yellow Griffin is notorious for extremely long waits and hit or miss burgers.

Link to My Place puts it in California. Not quite Bloor west Village.

My Place, a Canadian Pub, is on Bloor, a few doors west of Jane

Also in case they want pub food, which of the many are the best?
