Buttermilk Channel or Pies n thighs?

Craving some good down home southern food and have wanted to try both. Obviously, I would go with the Chicken and waffles at BC and at Pies n thighs also the fried chicken. Which would you say is better? Buttermilk channel is fancier, pricier, etc. but I don't care about the atmosphere for this meal. This is based purely on whose food is better.. particularly the chicken. Please help out hounderss!!!!

I've had both and my recommendation is ... neither. For the best fried chicken around, you really need to suck up the expense and go to Blue Ribbon. A not too distant second goes to Henry's End. I liked Pies n Thighs, but it wasn't in the same realm as either of these two, and I was very disappointed with Buttermilk Channel.

I really like Buttermilk Channel, but I don't think of the food as "down home Southern". I admit that I have not eaten their fried chicken, but that is because there are less uniquely southern foods on the menu that have attracted my attention. The reviews of Pies 'n Thighs have never turned me on. Perhaps it's because at my age I can't afford to be into grease. So from what I know (BC) and what I have read (PnT), I think you'll find the food much better--and not that more expensive--at Buttermilk Channel, but it will not necessarily be more authentic.

Went to pies and thighs with a couple of my buddies today. Two of us ordered the fried chicken which came with a biscuit and 2 sides with mac and cheese and french fries as sides. My other friend got the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and potato salad. The fried chicken was very good. Nice batter, hot, juicy and went well with the honey they have. The biscuits were also quite good and huge. Mac and cheese was nothing special and I didn't care for the hot sauce they put in it. My friends french fries were also nothing great- just little skinny stumps of potato. I ordered the watermelon agua fresca to drink and it was refreshing at the beginning but after awhile it had me feeling a little sick like I was drinking cough medicine. Overall, we enjoyed the food but I have to admit we were all a little disappointed.

Here are some of the bad points- They had no tables so they said they'd put on on the "waiting list". Meanwhile they proceeded to seat us in the back room on bar stools facing a brick wall. They then took our orders since we were starving and said as soon as the next table opened we'd get it. Next table that opened went to someone else. Whatever at this point we just wanted to eat so we took our lumps and just ordered. I wanted the hush puppies but they were out. My friend wanted the creamed spinach and they were out of that too. Servers were really aloof. The service was pretty horrible and they barely came to check on us. I guess thats what happens when they sit you in the back room.

The food is cheap and the chicken is really good but I'd stick to that. The pulled pork was really dry and my friend had to drench it in BBQ sauce which took them forever to bring. I couldn't come here and not get some pie. I tried the chocolate pudding, apple, and banana. All were very good. The banana cream was my favorite. Overall, I am glad I went and spent some time with good friends but I wouldn't run back again.
