Help Me with a "70's Funk" Party Theme
I was inspired by a post on potluck themes, and I wanted to add something I've been considering for a while:
I want to do a "70's Funk" music party, getting foods that reflect great songs or artists of the time. They don't necessarily have to be typical of the "70's" kind of food, though.
First off the bat: The Ohio Players "Fire" FI-YURR! unh-unh. <cue to grill some foods>.
Then, "Funky Nassau" to cue up some conch fritters...
Of course, where would we be without the unequalled James Brown, maybe "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" -- to cue up some fish en papillote?
Parliament Funkadelic? http://musicalstewdaily.files.wordpre... inspires some wild jello salad with spiky carrots and celery inside ;-).
What would be your ideas for the party? Name a song or artist and the food or technique that you suggest as the proper homage. I know you all are creative, so... GET FUNKY, y'all!
no no no! I need FUNK. FUNK, girlfriend!
thanks for playing, though. your consolation prize is behind curtain #3. ;-). (disco evolved from funk.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgKzzy... ).
ps, you made me crack up with the "knock three times tuna trio"! i just pictured tony orlando and dawn, smearing mayo on white bread. http://images.radcity.net/6603/343495...
this DOES give me some ideas for costumes, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7Jvsb... (except for the bear rug on tony's chest. crikey!).
Ok...lets put some funk in this...
Super Freak Chicken>roasted poblano marinated chicken
Papa was Rolling ravioli Stone
Let it whip..ed potatoes
You dropped the bomb on me ... stuffed cherry peppers
Rock Shrimp Steady
So did I funk it up some?? Welll now you went and did it, i am so having a funk 70's dinner next weekend!!!
