Good Food in Mountains of Virginia?

Suggestions for good food in western Virginia? In the Charlottesville, Staunton, Roanoke area?

Will be in that area for a couple of days later this month.

  1. Jess' Quick Lunch at the downtown Harrisonburg location. Best dogs, burgers, and fries anywhere. Wright's Dairy Rite as well. Here are a few others that I liked in that area.

Basic City Luncheonette in Waynesboro. It's a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but good and very reasonable. Breakfast was when I went there; home cooking. They only serve dinner on Friday nights.

Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton, VA is awesome. Good food, good beer, and a great view of the mountain.

In Staunton, there was an Italian restaurant; I think it was Mario's. It was also very good.

For upscale, try the Staunton Grocery in downtown Staunton. They grow their own fresh herbs and veggies. It has been written up in Virginia Living Magazine.

You should check out the Mid-Atlantic board for more postings in that area.
