best bubble tea flavours
hi~~
i just got addicted to bubble teas- theyre sooo good!!!
and i tried the taro milk tea with pearls
it was good but too sweet.
so please recommend some really good but not TOO sweet
kinds of bubble teas,,,, milk tea or slush, anything!
and when you order the bubble tea, whichever kind,
in what order do you say it ?
like,, : "i would like a small semi-sweet mango slush with mango jelly ?"
or what about the smoothies? : "a large real fruit strawberry smoothie please.." ??
is that how you say it? someone please help!!

You can specify the sweetness level you wish for any drink. Just give it to them in percentage, e.g. 50% sweet.

Hey Bubblism, I am just beginning to discover the joys of bubble tea myself. I wasn't too keen at first because I don't like the pearls, but once I realized you can get jelly instead, it was on :-).
I had a BBT in Chinatown at Panda that was uber sweet, so I know what you mean. My favourite so far of my extremely limited attempts is Ochi, also in Chinatown. They seem not to overly sweeten their drinks, at least the ones I've tried. I'm anxious to try Dragonball on 25th as I keep hearing it is the best one in Vancouver, but I suspect the top ones are out in Richmond...

I haven't done an extensive sample of Richmond bubble tea places... but so far I still like Dragonball the best. They' have a great fresh flavours selection using real fruit. My go-to fresh fruit flavour is strawberry-lychee-slush-no-milk-half-sweet. I also like their basic milk tea (I think they call it "supreme milk tea")

Thanks for the additional intel on Dragon Ball, twinkie. I went there today right at two when they open and they were slammed within 10 mins, with more than a dozen people waiting.
It's cool that they are open till midnight as well. They do have a great "fresh" list. I tried a strawberry pineapple no slush with milk and coconut jelly which was excellent but a bit too sweet (I'll go for half sweet next time). It was $4.50. To counter the impact of the HST they have discontinued their stamp card program, which met with some disgruntled comments from patrons after me. Seemed like a good idea to me if it avoids increasing the prices.
I almost got the supreme milk tea as I think I am drawn to the milk tea flavours -- green milk tea is still my numero uno choice so far. Next time!

re: Bubblism
Dragon Ball is very good a little sweet but nothing like in China town, if you are worried just tell them half sweet. Been to a few places in Richmond, I like bubble Castle though lots of glares being the only white guy there but pretty awesome the large is served in a bowl that puts the common gold fish bowl to shame but very good tons of choice. Bubble tea in Richmond is a different experience than the grab and go here, it's more a sit down experience and have some snacks and some good Taiwanese food. But my favorite is Dragonball's strawberry pineapple, no milk, slush, coconut jelly and tapioca pearls. It is very far from the traditional bubble tea "bubbles in reference to shaken tea" but still awesome! oh Cash only too at Dragonball

re: addy_palmer
addy, appreciate the specifics on ordering at Dragonball. The options at these places remind me of trying to figure out all the jargon at coffee places :-). The strawberry pineapple sounds good -- do you know if they use real fruit at all? Ochi apparently does but Panda was all syrups and powders.
