Help! Mexican food

I have an hour to decide from among Nacho Mama's, Juan's Flying, Felipe's and Maya. Never been to either of these 4 (the latter I understand is sorta catch-all Latin food, not necessarily Tex-Mex). Any strong suggestions among these or maybe somewhere else? They also need to have a liquor license, as I crave a margarita...

Thanks!

El Gato Negro blows all of the others posted away. It is the only Mexican food I will eat in this city. And if you are craving magaritas they are the best!

Sorry i didnt catch you in time!

Not impressed by El Gato Negro. Actually sent a margarita back...dishwater tasting to me. I moved here from Texas 2 years ago and have struggled to find similar Mexican/TexMex. Superior Grill is okay. Taco San Miguel on Severn in Metairie has authentic South Texas Tex/Mex. Not sure about their margaritas. Of the 4 restaurants you listed, I like Felipes. Definitely above-par compared to our other local offerings.

I suggest Felipe's. There are two. One in CBD and one Uptown. Felipe's gets more praise on this board. I would also consider Panchita's.

      Felipe's Taqueria @ 301 N. Peters St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 267 - 4406.

Yes. Cold Beer. Margarita's and more. These folks are from Vera Cruz and doing a great job. The building has housed several restaurants that went under. I hope this one makes it.

That's my choice, then. Really appreciate it, I'd never have known.

Will you report back if you went there? I remember seeing the place open and I've been curious about it ever since.

Big thumbs up! Four different salsas and chips when you first sit down. Had a combo plate with a chicken flauta, a tamale (unwrapped, flat style) and an enchilada. That entree, plus a 3-way split of excellent guacamole, 2 Mexican beers, tax and tip: $20 exactly. My friends got dishes that were apparently common to Vera Cruz, where the owners are from. They were pleased as well. Nice people, worthy of our support.
